August Home & Garden Expo: Visit SCEEP Booth for Energy Saving Tips and a Free CFL
SCEEP to hand out Free Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs at three-day event
August 13, 14 and 15th at the Earl Warren Showgrounds
The South County Energy Efficiency Partnership (SCEEP) is participating in this fall’s Home and Garden Expo. The event will take place over three days, from 1 p.m to 6 p.m. on August 13, 10 a.m to 6 p.m. on August 14, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 15. SCEEP will be giving away free* Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs and sharing energy efficiency tips with event attendees at Booth #42. Festival participants can also sign up to receive a free Energy Efficiency kit.**
The expo will focus on rebuilding after a natural disaster, home safety, health and the environment. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about local recycling, alternative energy choices like solar, and many sustainable home products and services.
As all energy managers will attest, the first step before making an energy efficient upgrade, such as adding solar panels to a home or office is to ensure that the building is using as little energy as possible. To visually and experientially drive this point home, expo attendees can compare how much energy it takes to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a human-powered hand crank generator. SCEEP will also be giving away free Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL) and information on energy efficiency for residents and businesses at the festival.
“The Home & Garden Expo is a great place for conscientious consumers to take part in and learn more about energy-efficient technologies for their home and garden needs,” said South County Energy Efficiency (SCEEP) spokesperson Jim Dewey. “SCEEP’s messages of energy efficiency leading to cost savings and environmental protection are once again a great fit for this event.” SCEEP will be located at booth #42.
As in previous years, the expo itself is “going green” with a goal of creating zero waste. Environmental consultants will be on site to manage and dispose of garbage and other materials. Waste will be sorted into recycling and compost bins, with less than 20 percent going into the landfill-bound trash containers.
The Home & Garden Expo will take place from 1 p.m to 6 p.m. August 13, 10 a.m to 6 p.m. August 14, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. August 15 at Earl Warren Showgrounds, 3400 Calle Real in Santa Barbara. Admission is $6, Children under 12 are Free. Free Admission to all Tea Fire and Jesusita victims. Free parking will be available, and each attendee will receive a free reusable tote bag. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Community Environmental Council (CEC).
Save energy!
Get your old, working refrigerator recycled for FREE! Plus, get a $50 rebate for a new one!
SCE continuosily offers a FREE refrigerator pick-up program for all SCE customers in South Santa Barbara County that want to replace their older refrigerator or freezer with a more efficient appliance or dispose of a spare. In addition to picking up old, working units and recycling them, SCE will also pay $50 for a refrigerator and $50 for a freezer, limit two units per qualifying customer.
SCE will visit your home or business to haul away the old refrigerator or freezer. You will then receive a check by mail -- $50 for refrigerators and $50 for freezers (limit 2). Old appliances are dismantled at a recycling center where the metals and refrigerants are removed in an environmentally safe manner.
To qualify, residents and businesses must be an SCE customer, and the appliance must be located at an address in SCE's service territory. Refrigerators and freezers must be in working condition, plugged in and cooling for 24 hours prior to pick up so that the unit can be verified as still working. Only refrigerator or freezer units of 10 to 32 cubic feet will be accepted.
To participate, just schedule an appointment by going online or call 1-800-234-9722.
